Before the Brazilian elections, Leonardo DiCaprio praised Bolsonaro's forest beef.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro have fought it out on social media after the Oscar winner urged the country's youth to vote in upcoming elections.

“Brazil has the Amazon and other climate-sensitive ecosystems. And youth voting is critical in driving change for a healthy planet,”

Bolsonaro, whose policies include reducing environmental protections for the Amazon rainforest, responded sarcastically:

It is vital that every Brazilian vote in the upcoming elections.

Our people will decide whether they want to be ruled by crooks who serve foreign special interests or not.

In2019, when DiCaprio donated $5 million to conservation efforts, the Brazilian president accused him and other NGOs of “funding the Amazon's fire.”

In 2021, DiCaprio and others urged President Biden not to sign an environmental deal with Brazil that jeopardised the Amazon.
