Ben Simmons will miss 3-4 months due to back surgery.
Ben Simmons, a Brooklyn Nets swingman, will have back surgery on Thursday.
Simmons,25, is having a microdiscectomy to relieve pain from a herniated disc in his lower back, according to the team.
"Multiple back specialists" were consulted before the surgery was decided.
Simmons will need three to four months of rehabilitation after the surgery, but he should be fully recovered by September's preseason training camp.
"After consulting with multiple back specialists, it has been determined that surgery is the best option for Ben's long-term health," the Nets said Wednesday.
"Ben's herniated disc will be removed during a microdiscectomy on Thursday. Following the procedure, we will provide updates."
Despite multiple failed attempts, Simmons never played for the Nets after being traded from the Philadelphia 76ers on Feb. 10.
