Evgeni Malkin helps Pittsburgh Penguins beat New York Rangers in overtime thriller

The Penguins won Game 1 of their Stanley Cup playoff series 4-3 on Tuesday night thanks to Evgeni Malkin's 5:58 third overtime goal.

Among the highlights were Igor Shesterkin's historic performance for the Rangers and Louis Domingue's stunning comeback for the Penguins.

Shesterkin made 79 saves for the Rangers, second most in a playoff game.

John Marino's point shot beat Columbus goalie Joonas Korpisalo's 2020 record of 85 saves against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

"[Igor] played well. Both goalies were superb "Rangers coach Gerard Gallant. "All three goalies were good."

9:07 into the game, Casey DeSmith exited via the Zamboni. Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said DeSmith had a lower-body injury. He had made 48 saves to that point.

Domingue saw DeSmith go to the bench. On-ice officials informed Domingue he was entering the game.
