Kentucky Derby horses 2022 Race
For the second year in a row, the 148th Kentucky Derby will be held on the first Saturday in May.
Although Epicenter and Zandon are the pre-race favorites, it will be interesting to see who succeeds Mandaloun in the Run for the Roses.
Mandaloun (12-1 in 2021) won last year because Medina Spirit (15-1) failed a drug test.
As a result, famed trainer Bob Baffert was denied admittance this year and a repeat when his horse Authentic won the Derby in 2020.
Take a look at the odds, favorites, and longshots before making your final Kentucky Derby picks in 2022. The morning line will be updated.
Zandon's status is surprising given his scant race experience. But he won the Grade 1 Blue Grass at Keeneland on April 9th.
Epicenter has excelled at New Orleans' Fair Grounds, winning the Grade 2 Risen Star and Louisiana Derby. So quality trumps quantity for Zandon.
Messier, named for the Hall of Fame NHL Oiler and Ranger, is improving and finished second in the Santa Anita Derby.
Take the Wood Memorial at Aqueduct gives Mo Donegal momentum. Not to be missed is White Abarrio, winner of the Florida Derby.
Cyberknife won the Arkansas Derby, Churchill Downs' penultimate big prep event.
Florida Derby winners have won 5 of the last 16 Kentucky Derbys, most recently in 2017.
