Tyrann Mathieu and New Orleans Saints reach deal

Pro-Safety Tyrann Mathieu signed with the New Orleans Saints on Monday, per Mike Triplett of ESPN. The deal's terms are unknown.

The Kansas City Chiefs did not re-sign the 29-year-old native of New Orleans and former LSU star.

With Justin Reid, 25, from the Houston Texans, Kansas City decided to go in a different and younger direction at the position.

After failing to reach an agreement with the Chiefs, Mathieu met virtually with the Philadelphia Eagles in April.

Mathieu joins the Saints after star safeties Marcus Williams and Malcolm Jenkins retired. Free agent safety Marcus Maye joined as well.

The Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV and Mathieu was named to two First Team All-Pro teams.

In nine seasons, he has 23 interceptions (13 in the last three), 76 passes defended, 610 tackles and 10 sacks.
